Well, our challenge with the main line is as I expected. There is no good place to put the far hill in terms of height.
I selected a set of photos that have a low hill in the apex of our cove so it looks the furthest away.
Then I have a high hill as we approach the bridge over the main so we do not lose the backdrop there and it gives me a transition to the higher branch line backdrop.
Paul is looking at it and feels I could have made that back hill higher. A matter of taste a style.
It looks pretty good to me relative to the tracks. You can see the height problem in the little section of backdrop on the right of the photo. I am going to have to add plenty of trees here too.
This is the backdrop on the left edge of the branch line town.
So, now I am going to cut smaller sections to go between the buildings and transition to the town.
Those are now in place.
The brick building will be higher in the rear and cover the end of the photo.
We are looking okay I think.
Here is the longer view and you can see how that high hill behind the main blends into the town backdrop, which will look better with the addition of trees.
I am generally pleased with it. I learned to cut up the backdrop and modified sections to make the blending of the photos easier.

Putting up the first sections of backdrop
So,, Paul came over and we put up our town scene in about an hour. Here he is putting the paste on the wall.
Now the town is up and I am trying to see how it looks with the buildings close in front of it. It is not too bad as it is a eye height for most people.
Looking back down the wall. It does not really demand attention but finishes the scene.
Station seems to fit right in.
The coal dealer disguises some of the height difference.
You can see how I cut down the ridge line into the corner.
Now for the balance.

Planning the backdrop layout
So, the coved corner is completed and painted to match to wall.
Now I have to take about 7 photo segments and figure out how to put them up. Here we are beginning to decide how to get the best out of our pictures. The big problem is the sinking main line in the back by the coved corner. You can see more photos lying on the main so I can see everything to try to pick the best mix.
I am trying to see how I can use the factory to also blend the photos together.
This is the long view of the balance of the town which ends in a wall by our previous backdrop
I think I will disguise the end here with a grove of trees to cover the joint between the two back drops.
Some buildings in place to get more perspective
Now I have cut out my first town section.
Here is the corner and I cut the mountain down some to avoid a real big differential in height.
